I said the phrase ‘strange days’ at work one day, and later on I came up with a simple 2 chord progression, Gm13 to Dmaj and started hearing the melody with that phrase in my head. It sent me on a journey of sorts exploring where the tune would go, so I got up into my home studio full of mostly old and obsolete gear and started bringing it to life. I tuned my guitar to DGDGBE to give it a darker feel.
Remember that song you bought once…the one you just couldn’t get out of your head. You listened to it again and again. You knew all the words and those words worked a kind of magic on you. They took you back to another time, made you pump your fist in the air, remembering that first kiss. Or maybe they choked you up, remembering that time you got your heart broken. That’s what a David Johnston song does. It takes you to a time, or a place, that makes you remember how you got here, how you became you. Here is the song Salvation from the David Johnston Band in Calgary, Alberta. We are all seasoned musicians that have a vast history with touring and playing. Let me introduce you to the Players
I play guitar and sing in this band called « Confusionaires » which and also features LP42’s assistant manager Jayson Aschenmeier on bass & backup vocals, and LP40 alumni Adam Stark on drums.
The track was recorded at ‘Edmontone Studio’ in Edmonton.
We’re Clavius, a post rock band from our nations capital. This is our only song that was recorded with a singer, which he wrote his own lyrics and laid it down in one take. I play guitar as well as write most of the music for the band. We originated as a two piece (me and a drummer) but we eventually obtained more members to fill the wall of noise.
I use a 2011 Mexi Strat, through a pedalboard and into a Twin Reverb. My pedal chain includes: Polytune, OCD, Rat2, BigSky, Visual Sound Tap Delay (very underrated), Re-20 Space Echo and a Line6 DL4, mainl used for quick looping on stage.
We also have an album out, which you can check on our bandcamp.
This is from the way back machine. A band called Bridge. 1999. Features 3 current L&M staff from Edmonton Highlands. Roy Shermack/bass (websales) Ed Dinger guitar (shipping) and myself Rick Shermack. lead vocals/guitar.
